With little skulls in a circle,
Gathered all around them.

PEACE EDUCATION IN HIROSHIMA

War and peace; when we come to think of it, there is no other problem so important for man as the problem of war and peace, along with the problem of "life and death". Our generation has experienced the devastation and the misery of war. Even if we can say that this war is a minor event compared to the enormous system of nuclear weapons of modern times, Hiroshima and Nagasaki have in fact already experienced even nuclear war. With a strong desire to abolish war, we of this generation, who have experienced war and made efforts toward "peace research", wish to teach the following generation the idea of peace in hopes that they will make further efforts toward promoting peace. This is the movement inpeace education and structural and systematic peace education in schools is now being talked about through the world. In Hiroshima, peace education is now steadily being promoted. On June 1, 1972, the Hiroshima Institude for Peace Education was established.
